May 28th, 2009: TARDIS Project Complete

Yeah, I know I've failed in the comic department for quite some time now, but this time i had a very good reason. Well, actually a very BIG, BLUE reason: a TARDIS! Yep, I built a full size replica of the time machine from Doctor Who, and premiered it at Anime Boston 2009. It has working lights and sounds, and moves on caster rollers so we can push it around.. but NO, it is NOT BIGGER ON THE INSIDE. Sheesh. Anyway, I'm really happy with it and I'm looking forward to bringing it to more cons in the future. I don't know how I get myself into these things.

July 14th, 2008: A Giant Robot and A Webcomic

After three years I'm happy to announce that I FINALLY FINISHED MY CANTI COSPLAY from FLCL. Well, by "finished" I mean it was presentable enough to wear onstage for a masquerade skit at Anime Boston 2008. You can check out a video of our performance HERE. It felt good just to finish, but I want to make a 2.0 version someday. I definitely learned a LOT from the experience. I was also invited back as a guest to PortCon Maine this year, where I ran a panel entitled, "Props, Flutes, and How NOT TO MAKE A ROBOT," which pretty much sums up both my Canti making experience and my new job as a flutemaker! Who'd have thought, right? I spent the rest of the con at my table in Artist's Alley chillin' with the comic artists, and the result was the inspiration for my latest strip, featuring Andi from Easy Skankin' and Garth from Comedity. Next up: ConnectiCon in August and Dragon*Con in September. Smell ya laters!

January 10th, 2008: Happy Birthday to Me

It's my 27th birthday, and SOL's 2nd birthday, so have a drink on me! Well, in my honor, not actually on me, I'm not paying for all you suckers!

November 16th, 2007: Startin' The Kids Young

I can't really say much about this comic without spoiling the joke... except maybe "don't do drugs!"

November 14th, 2007: Injuries Are Funny..Especially When It's Not You

A couple of comics for you about my propensity lately for accidental self injury. Giggle away at my expense...its ok!

July 8th, 2007: ConnectiCon 2007

Off to ConnectiCon where I'll be manning the SOL table so come say hi! I'll be located in the "Artists' Colony," which kinda makes us sound like a bunch of diseased lepers...well, I guess that's accurate?

May 29th, 2007: Back From the South Pacific

...and a little bit browner for my trouble. Enjoy this week's comic, in which I try to explain the phenomena of "sunlight" to good ol' Xenos.

May 2nd, 2007: Off to Tahiti!

Yep, I'm off on a sailing trip to Tahiti with some family members and a whole bunch of friends, so I'll be off the grid for a bit. Smell ya laters (hopefully with a tan)!

March 23rd, 2007: Madness? Or 300?

In case you didn't know, Xenos is Greek...and REALLY into the movie 300. Seriously, he hasn't stopped quoting it for a while now. I'm ALMOST ready to throw him into a pit. Anywho, coming up is Anime Boston, where I'll be hosting the 18+ Dating Game as Jiraiya from Naruto. Come check it out if you're of age - they will be checking IDs at the door. I'll also be onstage once again for the Cosplay Chess..this time as a special attack! Laters!

February 11th, 2007: Xenos and the Ladies

Okay, so this week's comic doesn't portray Xenos' life EXACTLY... nah, just kidding, it's pretty dang close. Hehehehe. If he asks, I deny everything.

September 30th, 2006: Papa Hoho and Yet Another Anime Convention

This FMA inspired comic took a lil longer than most, but I think the result is worth it. Enjoy! Also, last minute travel plans - I'll be at a brand spankin' new con called, cleverly enough, Another Anime Convention in Nashua, New Hampshire. I don't have a table at this one, but you can find me with PatrickD of AnimeCons. Sketch out!

September 21st, 2006: Anime Weekend Atlanta 2006

I'm off to the airport in a few to fly down to Atlanta, Georgia for Anime Weekend Atlanta. You can find me at Morlock's table or the AnimeCons table, both conveniently located in artist's alley. Hope to see you there! Also, got a new gig at an art store. I'm grateful for the paycheck, but I'm hoping to make this as temporary a solution as possible before working retail destroys my soul.

August 15th, 2006: Derailment

Sorry for the lack of updates, everyone! It's been a bit crazy around here with the new place, looking for a new job, and I'm currently gearing up to head off to my sister's wedding in Mexico...but I haven't forgotten you! Thank you to everyone who has sent e-mails asking about the comic - its great to hear I have so many readers! At any rate, Otakon was a great time, and I should have many more updates soon!

July 17th, 2006: A Crazy-Go-Nuts Kinda Life

So the last two weeks were crazy with cons; ConnectiCon hosted a Artist Alley party which was a blast, and I will neither confirm nor deny that aforementioned party had any involvement with the the mysterious disappearance of a promotional blimp which had been tethered outside the convention center...though this is the theme for this week's comic. I also attended an Alice In Wonderland themed cosplay party, in which I was the Mad Hatter, so pics to come in the future! I'm also heading to Otakon soon, but in the meantime will be going full-tilt working on the new studio... since I just found out I've been laid off from my graphic design job. Greaaatt..anybody out there have a job for a starving artist?

June 26th, 2006: Back to Back Con Time

I've officially gone insane and am going to two conventions within a day or so of each other: the first weekend in July I'm flying out to Anime Expo in California, and then I'm turning around and heading back east to ConnectiCon in… well you guessed it, Connecticut. If you're at either of those drop by the AA table and say hi! In other news, I’ve been without a suitable place to draw for a while, so I’ve been renovating a loft to be my new studio. My old studio is half-packed and moved into the new one, so hopefully I can start using the new space soon. Smell ya laters!

June 15th, 2006: Anime Next HO!

I'm going to Anime Next in New Jersey this weekend, so if you're in the area, drop by, say hi, and of course, BRING PIE! If you are in the NJ area, drop by, say hi... and as Morlock says, "Bring Pie!".

June 7th, 2006: Anime Boston 2006

Okay, so suffice to say I didn't finish Canti in time for AB...but I did have a great time and got up to all sorts of shenanigans in Cosplay Chess as the ever popular Vash... which is the subject of this week's comic! Now that I can put the Canti aside for the time being, I'm working on moving into an apartment, so I've been hard at work building, cleaning, and moving stuff. But I'm gonna try to still keep the comic coming! Thank you for all your support thus far! It's much appreciated!

May 1st, 2006: CON PLAGUE

I don't know who.I don't know how... but SOMEONE at MTAC got me sick, and I didn't even get any. Instead, I got home and was comatose on the sofa feeling like crap. A big thank you to LT for "filling in" whilst I recuperated! Now to get back to work on that Kanti costume...BLARG!

April 10th, 2006: Kingdom Hearts and Big Plans

Hi guys! The latest comic is a spoof on Kingdom Hearts and keyblades, so enjoy! I'm also working on my next big cosplay project: Canti from FLCL. This one is a ton of work, but I'm hoping to complete it for Anime Boston! Smell ya laters!

March 29th, 2006: Squirrels and Upcoming Cons

This week SOL has tackled squirrels...though this is actually a true story. Yep, Morlock will do anything for money. At any rate, the next convention I’ll be at will be MTAC in Tennessee, where I'll be selling my stuff at the Morlock Enterprises table, flirting with the ladies, and running my first panel, so come check that out!

March 21st, 2006: Prince Likes 'Em Big

Still trying to streamline the comic making process, I tried a new way of inking with this week's comic... but I'm not sure if that saved me any time. Anywho, this comic is dedicated to two things: Lo's boobies, and the great cult game, Katamari Damacy. Enjoy!

February 27th, 2006: LlamaCon 2006

I just got back from Llamacon, a little start-up convention off in the mountains, and it was very successful con considering it was its first year. I met up with cosplay friends, pimped my comic next to Hookie Dookie Panic, and had fun being yelled at by the staff for elastic bands shooting and paper airplane throwing. I'm not going to a con for some time now, so I'm planning to get going on my next cosplay, which is going to be a ton of work but I'm excited about the project. Laters!

February 21st, 2006: Katsucon 2006

I'm back from Katsucon and it was a great con to start the convention year; Morlock Enterprises did well with our artist alley table and I also got to hang with Wilcow and Hookie Dookie Panic who had the table next to ours. We'll definitely be back next year. Now off to recover... and work on more comics!

February 7th, 2006: Convention Season is Open for Business

Hey guys! Just a head's up that I'll be at Katsucon Feb 17th-19th in Washington D.C., so come visit at the Morlock Enterprises table. Our featured items are custom Naruto headbands and ID badges, and I'll have Sketched Out Life stuff there, including prints of the comic, so check that out! Also, I just gave a talk last night at the Chelmsford Anime Club in Chelmsford, MA, where I discussed cosplaying, cons, and the like, which was a blast. Thanks for the invite!

January 10th, 2006: Welcome to Sketched Out Life!

Heya everyone! This is Sketch. You might be wondering what the heck this comic is supposed to be about... well, its about myself. I'm a recent college grad with a degree in illustration - AKA I've got a pretty piece of paper that says I'm an artist - and I've found myself with an interest in cosplay and prop-making. I now have a side job making props for Morlock Enterprises, and this means traveling to conventions across the country and setting up shop in their artist's allies. I sell prints of my art alongside the Morlock merchandise, and, to my surprise, they actually liked it...enough to request that I start a regular webcomic. Well, here it is, folks. Enjoy! Oh, and its my birthday BTW, so send all gifts to sketch@skechedoutlife.com. I enjoy pie and boobies, so either or both will do.
